Hi, I’m Doug Leonard, nice to meet you.

When I was 13, I had a job that doesn’t exist today. I was a ‘paperboy.’ That job placed me in direct weekly contact with all manner of adults especially as I made my way around the neighborhood collecting money for the paper. As I reflect on those interactions – I learned critical early lessons in the complete spectrum of human behavior and emotions without quite realizing or appreciating it. Quite possibly those experiences were the genesis of my lifelong fascination with human behavior – people, perception, and personality.

A New Chemistry to Study

While delivering papers, I dreamed of being an astronaut or being the next Roberto Clemente, and I loved science. My love of science led me to enter college as a chemistry major. I never ended up being employed as a chemist or in anything remotely connected to chemistry, yet today I help leaders understand the neurological conversational ‘chemistry’ of Oxytocin and Cortisol – both released into our system daily based on the types of conversations in which we are engaged.

Fast Forward -Locking in on my Passion

Long before I became a corporate consultant – regardless of the company or varied industries in which I worked- I was always most intrigued about the interaction among people and why leaders or teams floundered, excelled or performed somewhere in between. In 1996 I finally took steps to channel my passion by certifying in an advanced assessment methodology -what has now become 20+ years of interpreting complex behavioral science data and helping clients succeed in part by wrapping effective people strategies around their corporate business strategy.

The Cherry on Top

In 2016 I became one of the first 250 people worldwide to certify in a brand new methodology – Conversational Intelligence® (C-IQ). C-IQ, as I like to describe it succinctly, is a mashup of neuroscience, leadership, and language. C-IQ is a game changer in how we build our relationships through conversation and the level of trust in those relationships.

Bringing It All Together

Before embarking on my consulting career, I worked in organizations large and small in both the private and public sector. I have been employed in industries on the rise and decline, in rapidly growing technology companies and others somewhere between. I have held operational leadership positions with P&L responsibility. I have owned businesses.

As a consultant, my engagements have somewhat mirrored my own career. I have worked with executives and senior leadership teams domestically and globally for a wide range of companies in a wide range of industries. I have had the privilege to utilize every component of my skill set: organizational leadership, business strategy, behavioral science, instructional design, facilitation, coaching, speaking, presenting and more – I love my work, and I would love to start a conversation with you.
